The International Software Testing Qualifications Board, ISTQB, is an international organisation consisting of software test experts from all over the world. The ISTQB decides on the standards for certification and accreditation. What are national boards? National boards are the basis of the ISTQB. In national boards software test experts work together to create standards in the field of software testing. To do so in every national board several working parties exist, for example working parties for processes, working parties for Foundation Level et cetera. Every national boards sends an delegate to the International Software Testing Qualifications Board. In my conutry no national board exists. Is it possible to found a national board also in my country? Yes, it is possible. A certification demonstrates the acquisition of a level of knowledge and competency in software testing (basic in the case of Foundation level, and more specialised in the Advanced level). A certification also justifies the ablity to implement test techniques and qualification methods that help attain a level of software quality. The individual effort needed to reach the level of qualification required shows the person's investment in his/her chosen profession, enhancing value for his/her employer. Why should I choose the ISTQB Certified Tester? The ISTQB Certified Tester is a certification scheme, which is known all over the world. If you choose the ISTQB Certified Tester certification you get a real international certification. What is the exam format? The Foundation Level exam consists of 40 multiple choice questions. It tests the candidate's knowledge and understanding of the entire Foundation Level syllabus. To pass the exam 65% of the questions must be anwered correct. You have 60 minutes to finish the exam. The Advanced Level exam consists of three moduls of 180 minutes each. They correspond to three different areas with an exam for each area: Test Management, Test Analyst and Technical Test Analyst. All these moduls must be passed with more than 65% of the possible credits that can be achieved in order to get the Full Advanced Level certificate. It is also possible to choose only one or two areas. You get a single certificate for every modul. Is it still possible to sit the old Advanced Level exam? It is possible to sit the old Advanced Level exams (Technical Tester, Functional Tester, Test Manager) till mid of september 2009 in all languages without English. In English, according to a decision of the ISTQB, only the new Advanced Level exams are available. Is it possible to use a dictionary during the exam? Yes. It is allowed to use a dictionary without any handwritten notes. Is the exam an closed book exam? Yes. Is the Expert Level already existing? No. But an expert level is planned to be implemented during the next years. How can I register for an exam?
